Our Impact
Fostering Self-Sufficiency
We are dedicated to breaking down barriers of poverty with a community-centered approach, working to create sustainable, equitable, and inclusive communities. Our impact is felt each day—in the healthy choices individuals make, the children inspired by tutors, the birth of healthy babies, the successes of GED students, the generosity of volunteers and donors, and in the lives of individuals and families who ultimately reach self-sufficiency and no longer need our services.
FOR MANY IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS WE SERVE:
- Decent, affordable housing and food are scarce.
- Lack of access to living wages.
- Inequitable education resources and opportunities.
- Nearby, quality healthcare options are few.
- Transportation is difficult and time-consuming.

How We Meet the Need
- Free dental and OB/GYN care provide neighbors with access to quality healthcare and wellness education. Oral care is linked to overall health and women of color account for the majority of infant mortality deaths in SC.
- Families consumed with meeting basic needs can’t focus on education and other pursuits. Food, clothing, and financial assistance for rent and utilities help alleviate that immediate burden.
- Securing employment or a higher-wage job is critical to basic economic security. Resume development, job applications, and mock interviews through case management and job fairs fill this need.
- Educational attainment can change the trajectory of a life. A youth after-school program assists elementary school children, GED classes help individuals close the high school gap, and English as a Second Language gives non-English speakers tools to navigate life and to help their children do the same.
- A financial literacy curriculum focused on comprehensive financial management grows client’s understanding of money, savings, and credit. Childcare for adult students removes that barrier to learning and self-growth.
