EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Family Literacy Classes
Specializing in English as a Second Language ESL, General Literacy for Adults and GED preparation meets Monday through Thursdays from 9:00 – 12:00 noon throughout the school year. While adults are in class their children are learning new developmental skills in the Child Learning Program (ages 3 months – 3 years). Along with the basic curriculum, time is also dedicated to other topics such as parenting, basic health and wellness and community development.

English as a Second Language Classes (ESL)
ESL classes are also offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 pm with a curriculum designed to meet a variety of skill levels. Child care is provided for adults who need this service in order to attend the classes.

Life Skills Classes
Life Skills classes are another avenue for the community to improve their basic educational and inter-relational skills. This class meets on Fridays from 10:00 – 12:00 noon, followed by lunch together. Topics include parenting, budgeting, health and nutrition, environmental concerns and almost everything in between.

“Yes, I Can” After School Program
“Yes, I Can” after school program meets Monday through Thursday from 3:30 – 4:30 pm during the school year and is designed to assist elementary school age children with their homework and basic academic skills. Bus transportation is generally available from Angel Oak School to the Outreach and parents are responsible for picking up their children each day at the end of the session. “Yes, I Can” summer enrichment program is generally held in July for elementary students.

“Quilting Lives”
“Quilting Lives” community gathering for sewing and quilting sessions meets every Thursday from 9:30 – 12:00 noon. Participants gather to work on individual and group projects with materials and sewing machines donated through the Outreach. Sharing of ideas and skills knits this group together!
